What is Embosssing:

Embossing is a technique by which dies are used to apply pressure on the printed business cards which results into pressing of the paper and there by resulting into good looking raised effect.

In your print area you can emboss almost anything, commonly design areas where it is applied is the logo, design specific area or acheivement like "Since 1955", "No. 1 Company" etc, or you can even have it on your name, designation or other specific areas where you wish to have thet effect.

Blind Embosssing:

Many times you would have seen the cards like these below where there is no printing just an embossing on white cards or any color specific cards. In blind embossing only embossing take place on cards without any printing.

Spot UV Effect on Embossed Cards:

Spot uv is an effect where we apply film on certain portion of the card which appears more visible and striking then the rest of the design surface. As far as having spot uv effect on embossed card is considered either you can have cards printed on uv with matt lamination and then do embossing or after embossing have spot uv film applied to the card.

Designing an Embossed Cards:

The design can be made in any recognisable software like corel draw, illustrator, photoshop, in design etc and you can have almost any design for your card.

Area where emobossing needs to be done should be highlighted with complete black color as a seperate design file, only portion where its required need to be blackened and rest all other design elements can be deleted.

Print Preview of Embossed Cards:

If you wish to print cards in bulk i.e. quantity of 5000 cards and above then you can get a test print card done and check before proceeding with the entire lot, but test print will incur high cost of printing the cards in offset and then die punch making for applying embossing effect to the card.

If quantity is less say 1000 qty then the test print cost will be almost same as the total cost of printing the embossed cards and therefore its not recommended to have print preview.

Cost of Cards:

Cost will depend upon the number of cards which you intend to print. There are two component to the cost one being fixed cost i.e die and punch making cost which can be in range of Rs 1000/- to Rs 1500/- for standard business card size and embossing cost which is Rs 500/- per 1000 cards and the actual cost of printing cards. So, die and punch is a fixed cost which will not change with quantity and others will be variable cost which will vary as per quantity.
